Two out of the past 3 Thursday evenings (I missed the one in the middle), I’ve enjoyed one of the upsides of the crazy heat here in Madrid – warm evenings, perfect for some open-air cinema! The Institut Francais de Madrid, located near Plaza Colon, has been hosting a free series of popular French movies from recent years, wrapping up with its final installment tomorrow at 10pm.
Last week I was lucky to see one of my favorite (despite slight cheesiness) movies there, L’Arnacoeur (Heartbreaker), featuring Romain Duris as a professional hired by families and friends to split up mis-matched couples. I’ve seen it before, but it’s a delightful film and was a very fun atmosphere with a great mix of people to enjoy it again.
The only downside is waiting – people start lining up outside by 9 or 9:15, and last week the queue snaked all the way down the block.
Films are in the original French with Spanish subtitles (sit up front to actually ben able to read them), and you can buy drinks and snacks there.
