While I have been having fun playing around with my new (very old) camera, this summer is actually a great time to see tons of photography exhibits across Madrid. There seem to be dozens of shows everywhere for the PhotoEspaña show, marked by little yellow signs “PHE13” outside participating galleries and shops. You can even buy a guide to all the photo exhibits in most bookstores.
The one which I really loved so far was this show of photographs of the Kennedys in the early sixties by Mark Shaw, their unofficial photographer (and friend) during JFK’s presidency. Posed portraits and candid shots, in black and white or some in color, they show not only the style of the famous couple but also their family life. What was apparently JFK’s favorite portrait of himself, walking thoughtfully on a beach, is also included.
The exhibit can be seen in the gallery space at Loewe, on the lower level of their flagship store at Calle Serrano, 26.
